Buffalo is known as the City of Good Neighbors, and we often see that in action at Child & Family Services. Community partners are among the many building blocks that help to make our agency so strong.

There is a new fence behind the Lee Randall Jones Community Residence that needed to be stained. Recently, employees from Mower put aside their advertising expertise for a few hours to pick up paint brushes and rollers.

The CFO of Mower, Cheryl Duggan, serves as a member of Child & Family Services’ board of directors. She recognizes how important it is for nonprofits to maximize resources, and her team chooses a community service project each year. Cheryl explains, “It’s really all about teamwork, working together, and giving back to the community.”

Monica Bruce, director of facility planning, welcomed nearly 20 extra sets of hands. Not only did these volunteers save resources, but the time they spent volunteering showed the children that the community cares. Monica is a firm believer that the space where the children live truly makes a difference. She says, “It benefits the children to have a safe place—to have things that look nice, and that are taken care of well.”

In the end, volunteers stained 1,211 boards while learning more about how we serve children and families. It’s just another example of the City of Good Neighbors in action.
