“One customer confided that she stayed at Haven House many years ago. She was thrilled to pay it forward at the register,” said a Lexington Coop cashier. Haven House has been a safe place for domestic violence survivors and their children for more than 40 years. Employees at Lexington Coop chose it for their “Change for Change” campaign during Women’s History Month in March. The generosity of the Coop community exceeded all expectations and raised more than $10,000 for Haven House– a new record for the “Change for Change” campaign.

“Haven House supports women and children in our very own community,” said Amanda Cammarano, Marketing Coordinator at Lexington Coop. “Coop shoppers love to support local. They respond when we are standing up for people in need.” This support comes at an important time. Haven House has stayed open during the pandemic including emergency shelter in a confidential location, long-term transitional housing, and counseling to help empower individuals. The 24-Hour hotline always has a person on the other end at 716-884-6000.

Director of Domestic Violence Prevention and Intervention Services, Sara Grady said, “We are thankful to the shoppers and team at Lexington Coop. This donation will help us to continue our work in supporting domestic violence survivors in building lives free from violence!”

Support like this helps survivors with the basics when they first come into shelter. It also helps staff create a comfortable place where survivors can become part of a new community that believes in the power of change.
