Gia Santiago, Domestic Violence Economic Empowerment Specialist at Child and Family Services (C+FS) Haven House was selected for Buffalo Business First’s 30 Under 30 Class of 2024. This prestigious award recognizes 30 young professionals under the age of 30 who have potential to become a community leader on a grand scale.

“I’ve faced so many challenges, personally and professionally,” explained Gia. “In the end, the difficult days have been worth it. This is just the beginning; I can do more and help more people.”

When Gia started working at the Agency in 2021, she was inspired to learn more about domestic violence and help survivors at Haven House build a new legacy free of violence by teaching them valuable life skills.

In her current role, Gia oversees the Economic Empowerment Program at Haven House, which involves helping survivors of domestic violence become financially self-sufficient. Gia assists clients with establishing goals pertaining to credit issues, education, employment, budgeting and housing.

“Seeing clients obtain permanent housing, a job and financial stability is the most rewarding part of working in this field,” emphasized Gia. “Watching them achieve independence and learn life-long skills is so inspiring.”

“Gia models a high level of self-possession, insight and growth mindset for her clients,” said Kristen Tanner, Supervisor of Counseling and Advocacy Program. “She fosters resiliency and empowerment in challenging circumstances and demonstrates foundational leadership skills. Her contributions are incredibly valuable to Haven House, and she is well deserving of this recognition.”

Congratulations Gia! Thank you for your continuous advocacy efforts and having a substantial impact on survivors of domestic violence, our community and our organization!
