Students at the Stanley G. Falk School Roosevelt campus celebrated 716 Day (July 16) by participating in multiple Buffalo-themed activities and art projects with volunteers from Wegmans. July 16th has a history of being a special day in Western New York but in recent years has taken on more significance as a day to give back to the community.
For the fourth year in a row – college students from Wegman’s Management Internship Program – volunteered and helped teachers coordinate activities with the students. This internship program allows Wegmans to engage in community events throughout the summer and form relationships with community partners like the Falk School.
“The first year we came to the Falk School, we loved it and wanted to come back,” emphasized Michele Mehaffy, Wegmans’ Public & Community Relations Manager. “The students and staff are always warm and welcoming. Some of our employees are already familiar with the work being done at Falk and look forward to coming back every year.”
Some of the activities Falk students enjoyed included build-your-own trail mix, face-painting, designing a Buffalo-shaped magnet and “pin the football on Josh Allen.” When asked about the experience they had, Wegmans employees mentioned how they love spending one-on-one time with the students. Likewise, students’ smiling faces showed much fun they had throughout the day.
“It has been an incredible experience for our employees,” stated Michele. “We really love the opportunity to serve in this capacity and it’s a chance for them to see what Wegmans does for the community outside of our stores and the impact we can make.”
Thank you, Wegmans, for being a valued community partner and helping us bring smiles to our students at the Falk School!
