Buffalo, NY – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As Erie County’s only licensed domestic violence shelter, Haven House is available for anyone who needs its services.
There were at least three domestic violence homicides reported in just the past three months. These tragedies highlight the urgent need for the lifesaving services Haven House provides. Survivors who come to us are often leaving everything behind in order to find safety, sometimes unable to take even the most basic belongings without putting themselves at greater risk. At Haven House, they find a safe place to heal and begin again. In addition to shelter, survivors have access to counseling, legal advocacy, education and other resources designed to help them rebuild their lives free from violence.
Social workers and advocates at Haven House will be available for interviews throughout the month of October for any domestic violence awareness or prevention stories.
