Child & Family Services is delighted to announce the hiring of Kimberly Backey as our Director of Family Preservation Services. Starting earlier this year, Kim has already made her mark on C&FS leading Foster Care and Adoption, Preventive Services, Wraparound Services, and Health Home Services.
We asked Kim a few questions to help our supporters get to know her.
Could you tell us about your background?
I am a native of Buffalo, New York. I graduated from the University at Buffalo with an Executive Master of Business Degree (EMBA) specializing in Management from the University at Buffalo (UB). I also hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Certificate in Accounting and an advanced degree in Health Care Administration.
Prior to taking on the role of Director of Case Management, I was Director of Population Health for Millennium Collaborative Care. I was fiscally and administratively responsible for the overall management of evidenced-based health and wellness programs including case management programs across the eight counties of Western New York (WNY). In addition, I was responsible for developing, leading, and implementing strategies to deliver project initiatives to clinical and non-clinical partner organizations including hospitals, primary care offices, and community and faith-based organizations. I have managed more than $17 million in fiscal contracts and educational partnerships, and have led a nonprofit organization to receiving a Quality Assurance Certification for quality improvement and excellence in service delivery.
What motivates you?
I am motivated by making a difference and making an impact on people’s lives – whether it is developing policies, advocating for clients, or strengthening programs that I directly oversee.
What excites you for working about Child & Family Services?
There are many things that excite about working for Child and Family Services!
The excitement of:
- Being a servant and producing better outcomes for individuals that need our services.
- Working with very talented and passionate individuals. My team is *outstanding*! They are very skilled and hardworking. I feel very fortunate for the makeup of my entire team!

What is your vision for the future at C&FS?
To continue to provide high-quality service to our clients which will lead to Value-Based Partnerships with more healthcare systems, health care providers, and Managed Care Organizations.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I participate in various Civic Organizations. I am a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., and the Buffalo (NY) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.
I love the outdoors and love to run. I have run over fifteen (15) half-marathons and one (1) full marathon and competed in a duathlon, coming in 1st in my age category.
I also teach/coach young and old individuals to run to their fullest potential.
If you could tell C&FS supporters’ one thing, what would it be?
Our supporters should know that Child and Family Services is the trusted, “one-stop shop” organization. Whatever door the clients enter our agency through – whether it is through Foster Care and Adoption, Case Management, Counseling, Haven House, etc. – clients are treated with dignity and respect. Staff here at C&FS provides high-quality services to all clients regardless of the circumstances and works tirelessly to improve health outcomes.
