Child & Family Services is thrilled to welcome Chantele Thompson to our team!

As Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Chantele will be responsible for recognizing, creating, and implementing plans to promote diversity, equity and inclusion within our agency. She will also be promoting and developing training programs to enhance employee understanding on diversity, equity, and inclusion concepts.

To get to know Chantele a little better, we asked her a few questions.

Could you tell us a little about your background?

I have worked in all areas of health and human services and education. Most recently, I served at Erie County Medical Center as Assistant Director of Ambulatory Services, where I led sexual health programs with a specific focus on the LGBTQ, African American, and LatinX communities and HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention, and healthcare disparities. I have also served as Director of Community Relations and Outreach for a local charter school, a variety of capacities for Buffalo Psychiatric Center, preventive services, Wrap programming, residential for OMH and OPWDD programs, and much more.

I have served in a variety of volunteer capacities including global service work in Ghana, Ivory Coast, Dominican Republic, and Haiti. I founded Eniola Sisters Enrichment and Mentoring Program. Currently, I serve on the Board of Directors for International Child Advancement as Board Secretary.

What motivates you?

My almost 8 year old son, Quentin, is my primary motivation. I am also motivated by the idea of an individual or collective act of service radically changing the life of another.

What excites you about working at Child & Family Services?

I am most excited about the opportunity to improve outcomes and environments for diverse populations – both internally and externally! I have been serving marginalized populations my entire career, and to see such a commitment and investment in diversity efforts lights up my entire being!

What is your vision for the future at C&FS?

I envision C&FS securing its position as a leading nonprofit organization in WNY, and I plan to help lead the charge through innovative and intentional DEI initiatives.

What are some of your interests outside of work?

My interests outside of work include spending time with family and friends, especially my 8 year old. I love hiking and am co-founder of Black Girls Hike Buffalo. I am a novice yogi. And I LOVE documentaries. I have a real curiosity for how other people live their lives, so, pre-pandemic, travel was at the top of my list.

If you could tell C&FS supporters one thing, what would it be?

If I could tell C&FS supporters one thing, it would be that this organization has proven its commitment to children and families in WNY over many years, and I am confident that with our newly appointed leadership – who has such a commitment and passion for diversity – the best is yet to come for this organization!
