Congratulations to Haven House’s Josie, who recently celebrated 35 years with C+FS on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Josie began her career at C+FS in 1990 after moving to Buffalo from the Netherlands. Starting as a counselor at Haven House, she credits the Agency with helping her through her initial homesickness. “To be able to go to my job and know that I had work and a purpose, it really anchored me,” she shared.

Through her years working with survivors of domestic violence, Josie found both personal and professional growth that shaped her approach to her work and life. Listening to clients share their stories deepened her empathy and strengthened her belief in the resilience of the human spirit. She learned how to remain steady in the face of intense challenges, to hold hope for people when they couldn’t see it for themselves and to celebrate even the “small” victories on the road to healing.

“It helped me too, to understand what it means to go through difficult times and building resiliency,” said Josie. “I believe that people can come out, climb out of their circumstances and to be hopeful.”

Tiffany Pavone, Director of Victim Services, reflected on working alongside Josie.

“Her dedication has touched countless lives, offering safety in moments of fear and encouragement in times of doubt,” shared Tiffany. “She has been a source of light not only for survivors, but also for all of us who have had the privilege of working with her.”

In 2017, Josie became Supervisor of the Counseling and Advocacy Program. While her focus shifted to supporting the staff who serve clients, she has continued to counsel when needed. “The most important part is providing the support to our staff because I think if the staff feels supported and they feel valued, it’s good for clients,” she explained.

That support, and the opportunity to see its impact, continues to inspire Josie. “It’s really gratifying when you know you’ve made a difference in people’s lives,” she reflected. “I’ve always thought that was a very special thing and I consider myself lucky that after 35 years, I still enjoy going into work.”

Elizabeth McPartland, President and CEO, emphasized the importance of Josie’s work.

“For 35 years, Josie has cared for the most vulnerable individuals in our community. She is kind and thoughtful as well as a fierce advocate,” shared Elizabeth. “I am so grateful she has chosen Child and Family Services to build her career.”

C+FS is deeply grateful for Josie’s decades of dedication. Congratulations, Josie!
