Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, domestic violence survivors have still been seeking safety at Haven House. Haven House staff members have taken action against the spread of COVID-19 in order to give the survivors’ peace of mind. At the start of any shift, employees enter the building wearing a mask, immediately take their temperature, answer health screening questions, and wash their hands. While encountering the residents in the common areas of shelter, staff also make sure to keep at least six feet away and will disinfect any surfaces that have been touched.
Masks are worn at all times, and residents have been adhering to this during their stays in shelter. In fact, many have been taking this opportunity to show off their style. Although Haven House has a full supply of hospital-grade masks, residents like to don their own cloth masks inscribed with “Buffalove,” Sabres and Bills logos, or personally bedazzled designs. To help residents thrive during these unforeseen times, standard shelter services are continually available, such as group counseling, activities for children, and even freshly baked cookies on Thursdays.
No one should live in fear. Haven House is available during these uncertain times for anyone experiencing domestic violence and staff are committed to providing a safe, clean and nurturing space for healing. The 24-hour hotline can be accessed by calling 716-884-6000, and the online chat system can be reached by clicking here.
