The Community Residence (CR) recently displayed the talents of its young artists at a special art show where they showcased a variety of creative projects, ranging from drawings and paintings to impressive LEGO displays and large-scale, handmade creations.

“Our CR kiddos are very into their art. It’s one of the ways they really love to express themselves,” said Patience Bateau, Residential Supervisor at the CR. “We wanted to host this event so they could have their art seen and show off their skills.”

One child expressed their love for basketball through vibrant drawings, while another built an elaborate “comfort center” out of cardboard boxes, filling it with pillows and blankets to create a cozy retreat. The artwork reflected a range of influences, from favorite hobbies like basketball to television shows like SpongeBob SquarePants and Power Rangers. One artist proudly presented a large, colored Red Ranger helmet, while another used cardboard to create a boombox that could play music. Among the more interactive pieces, one child crafted both a wearable eagle head and an “animatronic” duck that could move. Patience mentioned that this artist had been working on these projects for over a month.

The event was not just a platform for their creativity, but also an opportunity for children to feel a sense of accomplishment. “A day like this gives children the positive reinforcement they crave,” explained Patience. “People they know are seeing their hard work and are commending them for their talent. It gives them a confidence boost that they really need.”

Reflecting on the day, Patience expressed deep pride in the children. “I’ve been with Child and Family Services for over six years, and seeing the kiddos enjoying this moment makes me want to cry tears of joy,” Patience beamed. “I adore our kids. Seeing the difference in them when they have something to be proud makes everything worthwhile.”
