This past Sunday, a group of C+FS employees came together to celebrate Pride by marching in the annual Buffalo Pride Parade.
Before the parade even began, the energy was easy to feel. Employees gathered around our Agency van, turning it into a rolling display of color and community. Everyone put their own spin on this year’s theme of High Visibility, wearing vibrant clothing and a variety of rainbow accessories.
As the parade kicked off, we walked side by side, waving our flags and sharing smiles with spectators. Some employees even held signs that honored trailblazers in the LGBTQ+ community. These signs were designed by C+FS employee, Shea Akers, and highlighted the “Builders of Buffalo.” Pictured on the signs were individuals who have played a huge role in advocating for and uplifting LGBTQ+ voices in Buffalo and beyond.
“The Pride Parade is a celebration of the recognition of the acceptance, belonging and visibility of people in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Nonbinary and two spirit community,” shared Yvonne DuBois, Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer. “Child and Family Services is proud to celebrate Pride not only through parade presence, but also through education and community support.”
Taking part in the Pride Parade is more than just tradition, it’s a reflection of who we are. At C+FS, we believe in building a community where everyone feels safe, valued and seen, whether they identify as LGBTQ+ or are walking proudly as an ally.
Together, we marched to celebrate love, visibility and progress.
