When Alexis* lost custody of her four children, her world was turned upside down.
While her children were placed in the care of relatives, they were separated from each other with four different families. This made visits with each child very difficult. Despite the challenges, Alexis remained focused on one goal: bringing her family back together.
From the very beginning, Alexis showed a strong commitment to reunifying with her children. She took immediate initiative, actively seeking out the support and resources she needed while working to build a safe and stable future for her family.
Alexis worked with Child and Family Services Preventive Services Program and, with the help of Case Planner Lauren Wogick, developed a plan focused on stability and reunification. Alexis ended an abusive relationship, recognizing that her own well-being and the well-being of her children had to come first. She also worked toward securing safe housing and securing full-time employment.
“Alexis was incredibly motivated from day one,” Lauren shared. “No matter what obstacle came up, she stayed focused on her children and what she needed to do to bring them home.”
As Alexis continued making progress, her hard work began to pay off. Two of her children were able to come back home first. Then, just a few months later, all four children were back – the entire family was together again.
“Since reunifying, the family has been doing really well,” shared Lauren. “They even got to spend Mother’s Day together. Alexis really earned that through her hard work.”
This journey highlights the goal of Preventive Services, which is helping families remain together and providing the support, resources and guidance needed to achieve reunification when separation occurs. Through Alexis’ perseverance and Lauren’s support, this family was able to overcome significant challenges and build a stronger future together.
