Reunification is always the goal in foster care, but reaching it takes time, trust and an extraordinary amount of work. This past December, one family experienced that milestone just in time for the holidays.

In May, two young siblings entered foster care due to concerns of domestic violence in the home. From the beginning, their mother was clear that her goal was to bring her children home. Their Case Planner, Emily Tait, quickly saw how determined the mother was to make this happen. She remained fully engaged in services, was consistent with visits and balanced the demands of work, school and securing stable housing.

“I could see a weight lifted off her shoulders, and all the hard work she did paid off,” Emily shared.

Just a few weeks ago, the family was reunited, filling their new apartment with smiles. The reunification came at just the right time, as our Adopt-a-Family program was underway. This gave Emily the opportunity to submit a referral for the family and have them matched with a donor.

As the family began this new chapter together, the foster care team made sure they felt supported beyond reunification. Through Adopt-a-Family, donors provided gifts for the children along with essential household items to help furnish the apartment, turning a new space into a welcoming home and offering comfort and stability as the family settled in.

“The home is now filled with laughter as the children play with their new toys they received during Adopt-a-Family,” Emily shared. “While they play, their mother cooks dinner in her kitchen using her new pots and pans.”

Today, the family is doing well as they settle into life together in their new home. The children are adjusting, and mom remains focused on building a stable future for her family. Their story reflects what’s possible when families are supported with compassion and guidance along the way.
