You may have heard that Buffalo Bills greats Jim Kelly and Darryl Talley visited Child & Family Services. You heard right! They surprised us on the Day of Caring to thank volunteers from Independent Health and help get the word out about the NFL’s effort to promote volunteering. Our site even made it on the #BillsHuddlefor100 campaign photo gallery.
The children in Residential Services were also part of the fun. The legends signed footballs for them, and then they got all of the children in a huddle for a talk. Jim Kelly and Darryl Talley encouraged them to be leaders and not followers by listening, paying attention to details and being around people and things that are positive. Kelly showed a child how to hold a football, and threw out some passes before moving on to the next stop. The visit was a thrill for the volunteers who support us, and we look forward to seeing what it inspires in the children we serve.
