Nick* had been through tough times, but his case workers, Mackenzie and Taya, were with him every step of the way. They spent countless hours with him, learning his personality and what makes him special. They helped him with his coping and flexibility skills so he could adapt to different living situations. After living in the C&FS Residential Treatment Program for years, Nick is now moving into a pre-adoptive home. Mackenzie and Taya could not be happier for him.
“Just seeing his progress, knowing where he came from to where he is now, is incredibly rewarding,” said Taya.
March is National Social Work Month and C&FS wants to highlight the accomplishments of our team of social workers. Social work links families, individuals, and communities to the services they need. The workers act as advocates for the children, ensuring they are safe and healthy.
“I’m three years into [this work], and it has definitely changed me. There is something about helping someone in their worst moments – to be their bright light and something positive in their darkness,” said Mackenzie.
Encouragement and genuineness are characteristics of C&FS’ Foster Care Program; though the work may be hard, the supportive team always has each other’s backs. Taya and Mackenzie laughed about how frequently they communicate with each other. “Mackenzie is basically my work mom,” laughed Taya. “This is my favorite work family ever!”
With communication and care, Child & Family Services’ social workers are empowered to create the change they want to see in the world. Thank you to all of the social workers at C&FS for your dedication and passion!
