When Emma* first came to the C+FS Counseling Program, she was facing several major life changes at once. She had recently learned she was pregnant and was forced to leave her home shortly after.

As she navigated this uncertainty, Emma began meeting with Sydnie Glinksi, Mental Health Counselor at C+FS. Together, they focused on working through difficult family experiences, managing stress and developing healthier ways to communicate in her relationship.

Emma also learned practical strategies to manage overwhelming moments, including grounding techniques, deep breathing and skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

“Emma has worked hard to take what we talk about in our sessions and apply it to her everyday life,” Sydnie said. “She’s learned how to slow down, recognize what she’s feeling and use the skills she has developed to work through hard moments.”

These strategies became especially important as Emma navigated her pregnancy and prepared for motherhood. She began applying her new communication skills to strengthen her relationship with her partner and approach conflict in healthier ways.

As she continued building a strong foundation for herself, Emma also made strides toward greater stability for the future. She secured full-time employment and found an apartment of her own.

While Emma has made significant progress, her journey continues. She still meets with Sydnie to focus on her mental health and build on the skills that will support her as a new mother.

“Emma continues to show up for herself, set new goals and grow as she navigates life as a new parent,” Sydnie shared. “Her commitment to becoming the best version of herself has been meaningful to see.”

Emma’s story reflects the value of having consistent support during times of change. With guidance, she has been able to recognize her strengths, navigate new challenges and move forward with greater confidence as she begins this next chapter of her life.
