For Yeli Colon, thirty years at Child and Family Services has been both a journey of growth, resilience and the joy of sharing her love of cooking. Last month, she celebrated three decades with the Agency, where she has built a career and helped create a welcoming environment.

When Yeli first joined C+FS, she worked as a housekeeper and spoke no English. With the support of her colleagues, she gradually learned the language while on the job. When a cook position later became available, Yeli took the opportunity to move into the kitchen full time, turning her passion for cooking into a career.

Over the years, Yeli continued to develop professionally, taking on leadership roles. Today, as Food Service Team Leader, she plays an essential role in the success of the Residential Program, helping ensure daily operations run smoothly.

For Yeli, her role is much more than putting food on the table.

“I love being able to interact with the children in the program,” Yeli shared. “Sometimes I teach them how to make traditional Spanish dishes, do their hair or just talk about our days.”

Throughout her time at C+FS, Yeli has also experienced care firsthand. After losing her son during a particularly difficult time in her life, she was able to begin counseling through C+FS when she felt ready.

“Having that support during the hardest time of my life is something that has stayed with me during my time here,” shared Yeli. “I am forever grateful for how my team showed up for me.”

Three decades later, Yeli continues to make a difference through the warmth, compassion and positive attitude she brings to her work.

“Whether she’s connecting with a child, encouraging a family, collaborating with colleagues or preparing a meal, she consistently goes above and beyond to meet the needs of those around her,” shared Dana Delaney, Director of Residential Treatment.

Through her personal growth and the relationships she has built, Yeli has made a lasting impact on the children and colleagues around her.
