Buffalo, NY – As National Child Abuse Prevention Month is observed in April, Child and Family Services (C+FS) is highlighting the programs and services that help protect vulnerable children and support families across Western New York. Through a continuum of care that includes Residential Treatment, Foster Care and Haven House – Erie County’s only licensed domestic violence shelter – C+FS provides safety, stability, and resources to hundreds of children and families each year.
Child Abuse Prevention Month serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of early intervention and community support. Research consistently shows that strong families, supportive relationships and access to resources can reduce risk factors and help keep children safe. C+FS works alongside schools, healthcare providers, law enforcement agencies and community organizations to connect families with services and support before crises escalate.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up in a safe, supportive environment,” said Tiffany Pavone, Director of Victim Services at C+FS. “Child Abuse Prevention Month serves as an important reminder that protecting children is a shared community responsibility. Through our programs and partnerships, we work every day to ensure children and families have access to the care, resources and support they need to thrive.”

Signs of physical abuse may include unexplained injuries, a child shrinking at the approach of adults, or cruelty toward animals. Signs of emotional abuse may include extreme behaviors, such as being overly aggressive or unusually passive. Signs of neglect may include chronic school absences, stealing food, or unmet medical and dental needs.
