Every Wednesday evening, something transformative happens inside our Residential Program.
These evenings are dedicated to Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Families (TCI-F), a six-week, evidence-based program designed to strengthen families and support children with complex emotional and behavioral needs. Recently, the program started offering this nationally recognized model directly to the families it serves, thanks to Residential Treatment Transition Coordinators Tamara Rivera and Madison Gora.
“Madison took this training and thought it would be helpful to share based on the needs of the current families we have,” shared Tamara Rivera. “I have been able to help lead role play, share examples and offer an additional perspective.”
With their leadership, what started as training has become something much more meaningful.
Each week, families come together to learn practical, real-life skills including how to prevent crises before they begin, how to safely de-escalate stressful situations and how to respond in ways that are both supportive and therapeutic when emotions run high. Beyond the techniques, relationships are being rebuilt.
Caregivers are gaining a better understanding of their child’s needs, while children begin to feel safer and more understood. At the same time, stronger partnerships are forming between families and residential staff, creating a shared approach rooted in trust and consistency.
“By equipping families with these tools, TCI-F helps reduce the length of time children spend in residential care and supports smoother, more successful transitions back home,” shared Dana Delaney, Director of the Residential Program.
By the time families leave the TCI-F program, they take more than strategies with them. They leave with renewed confidence, stronger connections and a clearer path forward – stepping back through those doors better equipped to support their child and their future together.
