This past Saturday, a group of C+FS and Falk employees came together to celebrate Juneteenth by marching in the annual Buffalo Juneteenth Parade.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when freedom finally reached the last enslaved people in Texas, over two years following the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a turning point in American history – a powerful reminder of liberation, resilience and cultural pride.

Participating in Buffalo’s annual Juneteenth Festival was a chance to be part of something monumental, right in the community we serve every day. As the third largest Juneteenth celebration in the country, it’s a day for many different organizations to come together.

“Juneteenth is a pivotal element of American history and a celebration of the liberation and self-determination of Black people, and their recognition as full citizens of our nation,” shared Yvonne DuBois, Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer. “Being able to participate in this historic event is yet another demonstration of the commitment of C+FS to be present in the communities in which we serve.”

This year’s theme, Celebrating Freedom, History, Culture and Resilience, reflected the spirit of the day and continues to resonate with the goals of our Agency. Our mission is nurturing a healthy and more equitable Western New York for the benefit of current and future generations, which echoes the values tied into Juneteenth 2025.

“I am filled with pride and gratitude for the ways that we consistently show up through our committee work and community presence,” said Yvonne.

Through gatherings, reflection and connection, Juneteenth invites us to honor the past while continuing the work toward a more just and inclusive future.
