Child and Family Services Haven House held its annual press conference, Shine the Light, at the Tribute Garden in Tonawanda, N.Y. on Purple Thursday (October 17, 2024). Guest speakers from the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Bury the Violence described how critical a coordinated community response is to saving more lives.

One of the guest speakers is a survivor of domestic violence, who bravely shared her story about how Haven House and other partnering organizations helped her find the courage to escape her abuser. She has become an advocate for survivors, concentrating on helping those from marginalized and underrepresented communities.

At the event, Haven House staff members displayed the “Clothesline Project,” which consisted of t-shirts designed by survivors of domestic violence and their children through Haven House’s Art Empowerment Program. Each t-shirt captured a survivor’s story through painted words and pictures. Other artwork, including handmade vases, were displayed on the tables.

Thank you to those who attended, our guest speakers and our corporate partners, Independent Health, Parkview Health Services and Walsh Duffield Companies Inc., for sponsoring Child and Family Services during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
