What is the Parenting Apart Program?
The Parenting Apart Program helps to teach divorcing or separating parents about
how their breakup affects their children. This program will show parents how they
can reduce the stress of family changes and protect their children from the negative
effects of ongoing conflict between the parents. This will help you as a parent
to promote your child(ren)’s healthy adjustment and development.
The program consists of one 6-hour session. You will have several dates to choose
from and you will not be placed in the same class as your co-parent.
The class includes:
- Techniques to help children adjust to separation and divorce
- The emotional effects of parental conflict on children
- Information on how to help children respond to their situation in healthy ways
- Helpful and harmful parent behaviors
- The difference between co-parenting and parallel parenting
- Overview of the legal process
Is There A Cost to Participate?
This is a fee based program. Special arrangements can be made for a reduced fee
or scholarship if certain conditions are met. Please contact the CRJ for more information
regarding the cost of this program.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone is welcome to attend. This includes caregivers, step-parents, grandparents,
significant others, and anyone else who is interested. When you register, please
be sure to let us know the names of all other parents, co-parents or others who
will be registering for the class.
Parenting Apart may not be appropriate when domestic abuse is present. Parents who
are victims of Domestic abuse may choose not to participate. However, the presence
of domestic abuse does not necessarily mean that you cannot attend. If your co-parent
is abusive, you should contact the Parenting Apart program at (716) 483-7774 or
