Who We Are
For nearly 132 years, Child & Family Services has dedicated its resources to
meet the needs of children and families. One of Western New York's oldest human
service agencies, Child & Family Services fosters safe and healthy environments
for children and families in local homes, schools, workplaces and communities. The
agency is rooted in the Buffalo City Children's Aid Society, established in 1873,
and the Buffalo Charity Organization Society, which was established in 1877, and
became the Family Service Society in 1934.
Today, Child & Family Services is one of the largest private, not-for-profit
family service agencies in the country, and is recognized as a national leader in
innovative programming and services. The agency provides children, adults, families
and businesses with a vast array of behavioral health and human service programs
including: family counseling, family mental health services, preventive services;
foster care, special needs adoption and after-hours protective services; residential
treatment services for youth; special education programs; domestic violence prevention,
treatment and intervention services; employee assistance programs; senior services;
community-based services; advocacy; family loan and family life education.
The agency is non-sectarian and provides services to children, families and individuals
without regard to race, creed, national origin or economic status. Over 60% of the
individuals the agency serves live at or below the national poverty level.
Child & Family Services is governed by a volunteer board of directors which
represents the broad community the agency serves.
Child & Family Services strengthens families, and families strengthen society.
The agency recognizes that well-functioning families are both a building block for
and a support to society.
Accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children,
